The Colour of Summer
This time last year, almost to the day, we went on an impromptu adventure. I remember the day well, it was hot and sticky, and LL was still so little that we had to stop and pull over in the car to feed her. We ended up having a special morning, one of those ones you will remember for a long time to come.
And so this year of course we had to go and relive the moment and make new memories. What a difference a year makes! It felt like no time at all had passed since we were there amongst the long fields of purple flowers, blowing gently in the breeze. It felt like yesterday, yet so much has happened. Taking these photos again, against the same stunning backdrop, only goes to reinforce just how much our family has grown in the past year. Gone is the baby carrier, gone are the pull over on the side of the road breastfeeds. Last year we wouldn’t let Mads use the sharp scissors to cut the lavender, this year she used them with confidence. A small milestone perhaps, but still a significant sign of change. A year has passed and we have two walking, wild spirted little girl’s who drive us crazy on a daily basis, yet complete our world.
We might just have to make this a yearly tradition- to go to these beautiful fields and run freely amongst the lines of lavender. To breathe in their lovely smell and make buzzy noises like the bumble bee visitors who are there enjoying them too. To bribe our girls with a jelly tot or two to make them pose for a photo, before cutting some lavender to take home to Grandma.
Simple, ordinary times together.
To take a moment to appreciate that we are so very lucky to feel this happy.
And happiness is never overrated.
