Me and Mine: A Family Project 2017: November

It’s that time of year again, I can already feel it happening. The time of year where everything starts to get a little intense, where you just feel that little bit busier, that little bit more overwhelmed than usual and where you feel like you need to get more organised but you don’t know where to start. I think it is pretty much guaranteed that all adults feel this way this time of year, it’s the festive promise of Christmas looming and all that you need to sort for that, there’s work loose ends to tie up before the end of the year, and all the craziness that comes with having school age children and all the many dates in the diary for the end of term.

I for one cannot wait for Christmas this year. It is our first one in our new home, in our affectionately named forever home, and I cannot wait to start having Christmas memories here. It is also the first time ever we will host Christmas, as previous our old house was too small. I am excited about the build up, about the decorations, the food, the family time, the lazy cosy weekends indoors, watching both our girls in the nativity play (Mads is the narrator and Lottie is an angel)… just basically everything.

But before December we say goodbye to November which has been a quiet yet busy month as usual. I look back on it and feel like perhaps we didn’t do much, but it has flown by all the same. We had a lovely short weekend in Hampshire at the start of the month, but other than that it has been quiet weekends at home (that are of course still busy and hectic when you have small children). We have also been very much focusing on our house this month, with our new family room and living/dining room almost being complete. It has definitely been a couple of months of upheaval having our new extension added on but it has been a hundred percent worth it, and it has already transformed the way we live as a family. I am just waiting on a few more bits to be finished but I am crossing my fingers it will be done before Christmas.

In what seems to be the story of our life at the moment our photos this month are a bit of a rushed, last minute, hectic affair. We took them yesterday morning before school as the tripod with the camera on it was already out and we seized the opportunity to do it while the light was ok. It’s definitely trickier to take photos in the winter time, a few times I have needed to take photos for brand work I am doing and we just haven’t been able to as it is pretty much dark when the girls come home from school. Then we only have the weekends to do them but they always past by in a flash.

Still I really love these photos. More often than not the impromptu ones are definitely my favourites. There is something that feels less posed about them (even though they are posed), more candid and more emotional, especially when you convert them to black and white. I know these are the type of photos that I will look back and smile at in years to come…

As usual don’t forget to go and check out what LucyLucyAlexFritha,  Charlotte. and Jenny’s families have been up to this month.
